Largest portion are the professional papers from the law careers of James Vanderpoel and of Aaron Vanderpoel and William H. Tobey, including affidavits, bonds, briefs, depositions, and indentures; bills, promissory notes, and personal accounts; and correspondence, primarily letters received, concerning land transactions, finances, other legal cases, politics, elections, legislative bills, and some family affairs, 1791-1839. Other area lawyers represented include A.F. Bartow, John Browk, Charles M. Davis, Kinstry & Edwards, J.H. Lee, C.B. Ludlow, and Wilcoxsin and Van Schaack.
